So its been raining continuously over the last week.. This is the first day of sun and warm we had..There is mud and water EVERYWHERE .. but the horses dont care... I've also taken on the care of my 10 yr old nephew... What a task but hes trying to be a good kid...
So my blog this week follows an ad I read about responses on craigist (I didnt actually see the ad)
But I guess it was about a lady wanting to breed a mare (no biggy right) BUT this lady has rescue ads, not only that has been posting ads begging for hay, horse care items, and a HORSE TRAILER.. UGH... Ok lets forget that this woman is begging for feed and other horsey items if your running a rescue should you really be breeding?? Your saving unwanted horses-yet your contributing to the problem by breeding... I dont know what kind of mare she was wanting to breed or if it was truely a quality animal worth reproducing, I DO know she only wanted to pay $300 dollars.. NOW, It is rare to find a stallion that is worthy of breeding (even if it is his first year at stud) for under $500... Sure you can find some crooked legged, ewe necked fugly stallion that his owner swears is the bee's knees for $150- $300... Or even some disgusting pony or mini that you can breed for $50... Does that mean you should?? HELL NO!!
Just like with dogs and cats... Just cause you have a dog, cat, horse, whatever doesnt mean it is worthy of reproducing- no matter how GREAT you think it is.. Now I'm not just talking about female animals... Im talking about males too....Just because it has a uterus or testicle doesnt mean it should breed... You should research the issues that can come with leaving an animal intact

Do whats best for YOU..
So recently Ive started giving beginner lessons.. I mean beginner beginner.. This is how you safetly catch your horse, this is how you groom correctly, this is how you saddle-and so on..
I have one lady that, god love her, she is the sweetest lady and is in her mid 60's... However, she has the rudest, pushiest, ill mannered horses I have ever come across.. No regard for personal space and just take her where they want.. One mare will even face up and charge you in the round pen if she doesn't like what your doing with her..Luckily the almost 2 yr old daughter to this filly is much nicer and a quicker learner.. To top it off this woman is plain unconfident...She has a husband who is the "old cowboy" beat em' into submission type. I dont really know how experienced he is.. I did explain to this woman that there is a reason these "old" methods werent in practice anymore-THEY ARE OUTDATED AND WE AS HORSEMEN FOUND A BETTER, KINDER WAY TO DO THINGS! Now, she's a very willing learner and trys very hard, she is always there when I ride her pony and work her 2 yr old. She LOOOOOVVEESS her horses.. One that LOOOVVVVEESSS her horses so much she lets them get away with unforgivable rudeness.. So far I've corrected alot of bad behavior..
Now, in a combination with beginner lessons and me riding her, cute as a doll, welsh pony she is getting confident enough to start riding again..We got on the topic of helmets..She told me, "I wanted a helmet, but my husband said I dont need one." My jaw hit the floor. So I asked her, "Who's gonna be wearing the helmet?", She said, "Me.", I asked, "Do you think you need one? Do you think it would improve your confidence, and make you feel safer.", She responded, "Yes."
I said, "Then you need one. Who cares if your husband doesnt think you need one.Your the one wearing it and if it will make you feel better, then you get a helmet."
The next day she went to my work (I wasnt there) and found a helmet. She proceeded to tell the girl who helped her how glad she was I was working her horses, and how I sacked out her filly the day before. In her words and I quote, "I'm so glad Jo did it. Had my husband done it he would have ended up beating on her." The sales girl was flabbergasted... She asked me if the lady was over exxagerating or joking.. I told her not from what I had heard.
This nice ladie's husband also told her she needed spurs, and insisted on her wearing them.. She wasn't comfortable with them and quit using them. She said she didnt feel experienced enough to be using them. Her pony can be sensitive and jumpy. I am so proud of her being a beginner and using good judgement.. So I''ve been working on slowing her pony down so she can sit him comfortably...She said shes always had to "keep up" with her husband who rides like an old cowboy (balls to the wall? *head desk* So I told her she needed to ride at a pace that was comfortable for her not what was good for her husband. If he got impatient he should ride ahead and she could catch up later..She was pleased with this answer and smiled..
I see this lady within a couple of months being a completely different rider.. Ill try to keep updated on her progress...

Posting Animal/product Ads online
Ok, So Im guilty of being a craiglist junkie..Even if I'm not going to buy anything I like to peruse...I also have alot of ads out there for horses for sale, tack for sale, and puppies when I have them.. I try to give plenty of info about the item for sale so I dont get stupid questions... Oh, but low and behold I always get a few..
I put a cheapy saddle on craiglist for $250.. No name but in good condition.. Pictures show no back cinch billets on the saddle and I didnt mention there were any because um... THE PICTURES DIDNT SHOW ANY!!.. So this guy wastes my time emailing me back and forth like 5 times then he asks if I have the back cinch and latigos (of course spelled wrong). I told him no but it did have the off billet, the latigo for the cinch with the saddle and I also had 2 back cinch billets, and a back cinch I would be willing to sell seperately.. No response....So a day later I email him and ask if he is still interested... I get a response... "I guess not."
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? If you waste someones time responding to a product for sale at least be decent enough to let them know you apperciate their time but you arent interested at this time....
JEEZ!! How hard is it to be decent?!!
My other rant is about people mispelling things in their ads.... OR giving ZERO info about what they are selling...
I saw one ad today for a Blue Nose Male Pit For Stud *HEADDESK* Ok ok ok, lets forget that this is a PIT at stud (he had bad conformation and was ugly to boot *UGH*).. The pics included were AWFUL..and it simply said.. Cowboy is offering his stud services.. Not a violent dog.. Call (***)***-****.. Great discription asshat.. Neuter that POS and then sign yourself up to get a vasectomy/tubes tied whichever applies to you... How can anyone take you seriously when you cant post simple info about your animal??
Ugh.. Now I have a headache... Soooo... enjoy..
